How Do You Rank All Time Greats?

Poest has a programme were two boxers fight, he said he was gonna do a tournement of the heavyweights, ut havent heard anything since he said that!

I think the program is "Data Boxing," which is excellent!

You can match-up any 2 boxers you want. The thing I Love about it is that you can have the 2 boxers match up 100 or even 1,000 times or more.

Example:

Frazier vs. Marciano, the Data Boxing has Frazier winning 58, losing 39 with 3 draws. This is when both are in their primes.

If you want, I can run a Tournament like this, just give me the names you want in the Tournament, maybe who is boxing who, like a seating type of thing. They also have past prime, when the boxers are past their prime, different years, etc.

When ranking/comparing fighters how do you perceive their prime? Do you look at is as the age range where they are their absolute physical peak? Furthermore when looking at a fighter's prime do you not take what happened within this time period as an indication of how he would do, at his best, against others?

Example : Fighter A is seen as the best in the division, unconquerable, but for whatever reason he doesn't train for his upcoming fight with Fighter B and he has his mind on other things. The fight happens and Fighter A is knocked out in a dominating performance by Fighter B.

If the above scenario happens do you not take that into consideration when ranking and comparing other fighters? Or do you just strike it from the record with the notion that 'since Fighter A didn't train or have his mind right it shouldn't count' ?

Thats a great question. Prime has nothing to do with age (unless we talk extremes) Lewis is a prime example of that and he admits it "Like A Fine Wine". Boxing prime to me is when they are fighting at their best, not how old they are. As for the example..which is basically tyson Douglas. He was in his prime but he was on the way down, its hard to say if douglas tyson fought Spinks tyson he would have lost!. So he wasnt at his best, but it was alot to do with things happening outside the ring. Technically he was in his prime, but now fighting at his best, probably closer to his worst

This has been well written about in the past. What makes a ATG fighter?

The ability to fight under extreme conditions (hurt, cut, losing etc) and not quit no matter what.

The ability to take a crushing blow and continue fighting.

The ability to land crushing blows.

Cleverness. The ability to avoid blows and counter to vital areas of an opponents head/body.

Is that program still around?

I have it, but haven't had it installed in years. I much prefer Title Bout as I think the results were more accurate. Haven't done much with either in recent years. You can still get it, but fighters are no longer updated. It's up to date only to 2012.

- -I rank according to a timeline comparison with other champs in their class primarily. This only works within say 2- 3 decades past and future.

Joe Louis was the first heavy champ to have a very active record whereas past champs always had difficulty in finding legal venues that could support their purses that sees fighters fight in pastures and barges and such. He represents the start of the modern age where boxing is finally mainstream and the start of the timeline comparison.
