  • Your lack on depth in terms of boxing history is striking. Norton was termed the uncrowned champion after his highly controversial loss to Ali in 76. He was thought to be Ali’s superior and the rightful worlds hwt champion. (This has nothing to do with handing him a belt). As such Holmes win over Norton was a big deal as Ken was universally thought of as No 1. You put together this Herculean win which showed Larry’s ATG will to win which few fighters possess, his win over Shavers and his win over unretired Ali and you have the reasons Holmes is considered the true worlds champion Post Ali and up to his loss to Spinks.

Another point you miss, and you miss so many, is that ALL historians rate Holmes as a top ten ATG. You are obviously missing something. Actually you’re missing plenty!

Further regarding your last comments in another thread Lewis was worlds hwt champion when he fought Tyson. He had rewon the championship by koing Rachman. Lewis originally won that championship when he koed Briggs years prior.

Ruiz was never worlds hwt champion at any point in time.

    • I got to meet Larry. Good guy! Was he an all time great? He beat who they put in front of him. I was a big Carl " the truth" Williams guy who followed his early career and attended his fights and have a great set of pics with him. Still think he and Witherspoon beat Holmes but it is what it is. Kudos to Larry for a great jab and a great career!

--- Yeah, proof you weren't around that era.

Most thought Kenny Whooped Lar, and so the pattern was set with the used to be skinny Lar never rematching contested decisions on top of ducking a who's who of WBA champs.

Only lineal in wetted schoolboy world. Hear'ed he ducked Foreman too. What's up with that? Tubby Lar was never a part of the golden four of Ali, George, Joe, and Kenny even as he and George the same age.

The way it was that you could study up!!!

        • You need to write in English.

Holmes IS rated in every noted historians top ten ATG hwt champions. Usually top five. Again Holmes victories over Norton, Ali and Shavers gave him the worlds hwt title Post Ali. He kept that title until he lost to Spinks.

Holmes never ducked Foreman. Why should he? Every top boxer Foreman ever faced beat him in his prime. (Young and Ali). Ali was greater than Holmes but Holmes was eons greater than Young. Prime Holmes would be the betting favorite by a good margin vs Foreman based on George’s dismal showing against Ali and Young.

However Foreman retired March of 1977. At that time Holmes was a up and coming hwt a year away from his first BIG fight vs Shavers. As such their initial career really did not overlap. Holmes hit the big time in 78. Foreman retired early in 77. Suggest you learn your boxing history.
