I might agree with that but what I was saying is that Marciano wasn't in tip-top shape either. He had taken a lot of shots throughout his career and it all adds up after awhile. Ezzard Charles was a damn good fighter though.

Charles almost got a stoppage over Marciano because of what most believe to have been an elbow which split his nose in half. Rocky then knocked him out before the ref could stop it.

Have you watched the fight and seen interviews or just looked at the records? That was one of Walcott's greatest fights up until the knockout. He was boxing beautifully and even surprised the crowd with a first round knockdown.
I took this thread as being a Marciano appreciation thread; similar to the Ali thread I was involved in. Now it doesn't seem that way.

Many thought Walcott beat Louis in their first fight. Fact is that Walcott, like Moore, was a late bloomer. His chin was not the best, but he was a boxer/puncher supreme, and with his top level experience he'd be in the mix even today.

Now, it's true that Rocky slid into a weakened division after Louis had destroyed everyone, but that's no different than what Johnson/Willard did after Jeffries and Holmes did after Ali, Frazier, Foreman and Norton. Samething with Schmeling/Sharkey/Carnera after Dempsey.
