I think some Cubans would be good but amatuer is very different to pros so not all great Cuban amatuers would be great Cuban pro's.

i just heard 3 ex boxing amateur boxers from cuba went to germany and they're starting their pro careers soon. thats great

Can anyone remember the name of the Cuban guy Bowe fought?? he was well thought of as a amatuer wasnt he and Bowe beat him convincingly. I agree the 2 you mentioned would have done great as pros though. If Castros regime falls there'll be alot more Cubans joining the paid ranks. It'll be interesting to see how the Cuban pros get on in Germany.

Not all great amateurs become great pro's, regardless of where they come from. I just saw Mark Breland being mentioned by several people as the greatest amateur ever. Well, while he was a solid pro, who won a championship, he was never close to being an all time great as a pro.

Make no mistake though, if all the great Cuban amateurs had pro careers, quite a few of them would probably have been BIG as pro's. I think they would have made Cuba a top 3-4 nation in pro boxing.

It would have been interesting to see what Teofilo Stevenson and Felix Savon would have done as pros.

Kindelan was one of the most gifted fighters I've ever seen. He didn't seem to carry much power but he would outbox other world class amatuers with such ease. I think it is such a shame that due to politics we didn't get to see how good he was.

Cubans are good in amateur boxing. Most of them are boxers. It is obvious that they will likely become boring boxers when they turn pro. But thats just my opinion.

Jorge Luis Gonzalez, i remember that fight.He had beat both Bowe and Lewis in the same week in his amatuer days, he was knocking out limited opposition in all his fights and he was disrespectfull towards Bowe in the build up to the fight. Bowe punished him badly in every round for it before putting him to sleep.

Stevenson may have been a little bit overrated, especially if he couldn't solve the Igor Vysotsky equation.
