When SRL fought Kalule, he (Kalule) was 36-0. I believe that Leonard was very smart and shrewd. If he was able to capture another World Championship belt, it would increase his bargaining power for the Tommy Hearns fight, which, by the way, was right after Leonard beat Ayab. Plus, I also think Leonard knew that Kalule presented very little threat to him. In short, it made sense money wise, status wise, credential wise and risk wise.
Kalule was a proud man. He jumped at the chance to showcase his skills against the great Sugar Ray Leonard. He fought worthy.

From what i remember about the fight Leonard didnt look ro sharp, and was getting caught with more shots then normal. And was it not after this fight his eye vision made him to retire, for the first time ?
