Was a great win and a great fight but I'm not sure how significant it is. Just because Duran was way ahead of Iran in terms of skill. Barkley's claim to fame was his win over Hitman and he just had Hearns' number...He was a HUGE middleweight with a very strong punch. I think Roberto relished at the opportunity to beat Barkley cuz he just knocked out the guy that demolished him a few years earlier.

I liked Iran, he had heart and some skill but in essence was mainly a bruiser. He was kind of taylor made for Duran.

But the win over a bigger, stronger, faster and younger prime Leonard was the fight that defined his career and really set the tone for the next decade's worth of fights in that weight neighborhood. Even in that first fight with Leonard, Duran was already well past his best years.

well put it was the icing of the cake and explamation point, and the fight to me that made him one of the greatest ever then fight capped it its was incredible at 37 giving up so much size, incredible, plus barkley was a hell of a fighter

Duran was even robbed of a decision against hector camacho, he beat Barkley when he was already 37, that was 17 years since he first became lightweight champion in 1972.

I really, really like this fight, but when you get threads about Duran, it's rarely mentioned. I don't understand why really, as Barkley was good, and this fight took place well past (15 years maybe?) Duran's prime and 25lbs over his best weight. It's overlooked. Barkley was good, and everything was against Duran going into the fight.

I'd say it's the most significant win in his entire career. Probably ahead of Leonard and the success later in his career.
          - -The cherry on the legend of his career.

Beat a 100% Barkley whereas two ton Toney beat a 50% Barkley.
