  • joe louis' best performance? (besides schmelling II)

what were louis' most masterful displays of pin point power punching, short-crushing combos, and attacking at angles? level of opposition doesn't matter, just a fight where he shows everything that made joe louis joe louis.

Louis himself said his best performance was against Max Baer.

For the Max Baer fight, he was his best period!

The secong Buddy Baer fight in 1942. He pounded a 6'-7" 250lb man in 2:50 of the first round. Also Louis was considerably bigger in this fight than in his other fights, weighing nearly 207lbs. This was his prime fight.

The Baer fights were great and showed his skill. He was able to KO bigger men with seeming ease.

** The Buddy Baer and JJWalcott rematches showed what Joe was really about. Took on two really tough, dangerous era fighters who had given him problems in the first matches that ended in controversy and just blasted them out in the rematch. He could've sat on his streak, but he didn't, not ever.

He didn't blast Walcott in the rematch.
