I don't know if Shavers was really any better than say Bob Satterfield. Both had poor chins but Satterfield at least had considerable skill to go with his huge punch. Watching film of the guy is an eye opener; I had always thought Satterfield as a crude slugger. Shavers, like Satterfield, would always be at a huge disadvantage because of his chin. I don't think he was really great fighter, just a great puncher.

At heavyweight I think I'll go with Langford with Jerry Quarry a distant second.

Is this question specific to only the heavyweight division, Rock?

If so, here's a preliminary "off the top" ranking of the best heavyweight contenders, but I'm sure it could (and probably should) be shuffled around some if I spent any time on it;

1. Sam Langford
2. Harry Wills
3. Peter Jackson
4. Ken Norton
5. Joe Jeannette
6. Tom Sharkey
7. George Godfrey
8. Jerry Quarry
9. Sam McVey
10. Jimmy Bivins

Honours to: Zora Folley, Cleveland Williams, Nino Valdes, Eddie Machen, Gus Ruhlin, Joe Choynski, Elmer Ray, Tommy Gibbons, Luther McCarty, Jimmy Young, Earnie Shavers, Ron Lyle, Roland LaStarza, etc., etc., etc...Lots of quality heavyweight to consider, including a few of the modern alpha titlists if one doesn't consider them true champions (like me).

Golota would have beat Shavers .

He was a great puncher but I think people tend to overrate him because of his power .

True, but the Golota that fought Bowe would have imo. At his best Golota was a great fighter good jab, okay speed, and had good power himself. I think it goes to whoever lands first really .
