NSB is alive with Klitschko talk this morning, and it got me to wondering whether there have ever been any sizable (in importance) matchups between family members or more specifically brothers.

    Enlighten me please.

I recall some talk of a potential Michael Spinks vs Leon Spinks fight in late 1985 after Leon defeated Kip Kane and won the WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight title. Leon was training out of Kronk Gym at the time and his career appeared to be on track. Michael at the time had just won the title from Larry Holmes as was the reigning heavyweight champion. I seem to recall Leon being more receptive to the fight than Michael was.

Michael instead made his first defence against Holmes while Leon dropped down to cruiserweight and challenged Dwight Muhammad Qawi.

When Leon won the title Michael put his own career on hold and did his best to babysit Leon, keep him out of trouble and seperate Leon from the leeches and moochers that moved into Leon's inner circle.

Leon instead turned his back on Michael and chose the wild life and the associates that came with it. It was a sore point with Michael who finally gave up on Leon and got on with his own career after only fighting twice in the year after Leon won the title.

I met Braddock several times years ago.

"The Battle of Nurge's Field" was when Jim borrowed his brother Joe's sweater without permission and Joe was 22 and 4 years older then Jim. Joe just turned pro after an Amateur career highlighted by capturing the New Jersey Welterweight Championship.

If you go by the book "Cinderella Man" by Jeremy Schaap, the fight went on for an hour before the police brought it up.

This was not an Official bout, it was just a street fight.

I did hear that in the Amateurs, brothers did box each other, BUT can't remember who they were.

When leon beat ali, was he being trained by eddie futch. All i can say is that eddie futch knew how to beat ali, he struck gold twice with frazier and norton.
