    McNeeley vs. Tyson

Having been bored out of my skull waiting for my food to arrive on delivery, I decided to watch a fight that would kill a few minutes. I haven't really watched this one since it actually happened, and I managed to catch some things that I missed before. Mainly, McNeeley had guts. He came straight at Mike, took the first knockdown shot in the opening seconds, and came right back at him. He even pushed Tyson back for a little while before they were separated, where Mike proceeded to drive McNeeley backwards and deliver the finishing uppercut. Was it really a finisher though? Clearly, ol' Pete looked a little dazed, but he wasn't wobbling. He wanted to continue but his corner jumped in before either fighter broke a sweat. Was this the right call? Would he have fought his way back into the match? Would Mike have gotten better prepared to take on the division had the fight been longer, with McNeeley jumping on him the whole way?

Your thoughts on perhaps the most pointless fight ever.

What bugs me is this should be a TKO win for Tyson and not a DQ. Those guys where running into the ring to stop the fight.

You can only blame McNeely's people. Both fighters wanted to continue, and if it wasn't for that ******ed babysitting act, people might have gotten something nice out of the money they paid. I'll tell you though, as pointless as this fight was, its was one of the most exciting ones i've watched for like a minute.

There would have been no point letting the fight continue, as let's face it, the fight was a joke from the offset. McNeeley must've knew walking into the ring that he'd be lucky not to be getting carried out of it, which is why his corner men were quick to stop the fight. They didn't want to see McNeeley hurt, and were happy to take the money and run. Don't get me wrong, i think that any fighter has balls to even step foot in the ring, but after the fight, McNeeley was acting like he'd actually won, and he gained more fame than he was previously accustomed to! All for a few minutes beating at the hands of Mike Tyson

I thought it was a good stoppage but the DQ looks ugly! Why not just throw in the towel? ****! Was Peter REALLY that brave? That was practically suicide! That said he always fights that way

It's clear that Tyson was rusty. He only threw a couple dozen punches, and only managed to land about 4. McNeeley didn't even look that messed up after the second knock down; dazed, but not out. Mike was allowing a surprising amount of contact too. I don't know, I just think that the pace may have slowed down a bit after round 1, and Tyson would eventually have outboxed McNeeley to a KO. It just could have been a much better fight by allowing them to slug each other for a while, followed by settling, and finally, a boxing match.

On a side note: How would things have turned out had it been Morrison instead of McNeeley? and Mike had a little more time back in the ring, of course.

McNeely was a joke, but he could punch. His ko's were over bums, but still, it was obvious he could punch. He landed quite a few blows on Tyson, and it didnt have any effect. As far as Morrison goes, i think it could go either way, Tyson was coming off a 4 year lay off and was rusty as hell, Morrison wasn't at his best annymore, but could still be dangerous.

McNeeley was nothing but a media hype. He was no better than the Gerry Cooney's, the Harry Kid Matthews', the Duane Bobick's, and the Johnny Paycheck's of the world.

That being said, that was one of the more funnier fights I've seen in a while.

McKneely's people should be ****ing ashamed of themselves. They jumped in as if he was a 6 year old boy. Its as if they had no belief that he had the heart to fight back.

It was the first fight that helped create the ****** 'Baddest man on the planet' hype. Fighters thought Tyson was going to literally kill them, and they were all ****ting themselves instead of realising he wasnt the same fighter.
