Liston was seriously underrated in the power department. He had a better one punch finish than Foreman IMO. Foreman was stronger but Sonny snapped more bodyweight into them. His jab was a force in itself, a downright offensive weapon and perhaps the best the division had seen since Joe Louis. In fact, boxing writers everywhere were comparing him to Louis at the time. Foreman never drew the same comparisons among the press at the time.

i think his amatuer coach did tell him, from what i can remember from beyond the glory or whatever when foreman was on it. he was a stubborn ****, he wouldn't let anybody tell him anything, but the truth is he would have sent guys flying out of the ring if he'd used proper technique. i see it when i watch his old fights, he hit from too far away - short, straight punches are the way to go if you're an inside fighter

Foreman did hit with proper technique occasionally, it's not like he NEVER threw any punches with good form, but most often he degenerated into a wild punching madman.

I wonder if Foreman fired Archie Moore and the Saddler brothers and tried to get a hold of Joe Louis to be his trainer. That would have been something to have Louis teaching Foreman how to punch. Louis was always fond of Foreman and his ability. They could have made a great pair together, like Ali and Dundee. He could have been the best puncher of all-time.
