Watched McGuigan - Cruz about nine times in the last couple of days. Was Steve Cruz really that bad? All the UK media said about that whole fight was that Barry got beat by the heat and a dodgy Texan fighting in the Nevada desert. Nothing complimentary about Cruz...

I see it differently. I saw Cruz beating McGuigan to the punch most all of the time, and I saw a Texan beating up Barry McGuigan. Am I wrong?

Stevie Cruz was a solid fighter but McGuigan did noticeably wilt in the desert heat which must have been a stark contrast climate wise to a guy that fought his career out of Ireland. Keep in mind that the Brits always have high hopes for anyone that wins a world title and McGuigan was no different. After winning the title from Eusebio Pedroza, great things and a lengthy reign were expected from Barry.
