    Famous words!!!!

    how long have the famous words "you've recieved your instructions in the dressing rooom" been in boxing?? i've only been watchin since late 80's so how long has the ref been using this phrase pre-fight..

    I think its was done back in the old days aswell. I dont know the exact time though.

      wasn't Mills lane one of the first to do it? i might be wrong there but I just remember hearing it.

      I know the refs in the 50's and earlier used to spend more time giving insructions in the centre of the ring, then in the 60's and later the refs instruction time in the ring became more brief. watch the instruction of the Marciano Walcott fight and compare it to Clay vs Liston and all fights from today and you'll see what I mean.

        Sometimes they would give long instructions, and sometimes it would be short. I think it depends on the magnitude of the fight. If the fight is less important, they will give less instructions, IMO.
