I seem to remember Ali vs. Terrell as the "what's my name" fight right?

- -The lead up to the fight which like most Ali fights back then was not projected to be a big gate.

Ernie and Ali spar mates and best friends cooked up a conflict where Ernie pointedly called him Cassius(Clay) where Ali demanded he call him Ali that resulted in at least one staged brawl at their shared training facilities at Astro Hall that made local broadcast news.

The match was real with each wanting what the other possessed, so after Ernie forced to fad because of his eye, Ali reverted to script and the rest settled history.

Btw, I regard this fight as his best where he shows he can legit beat a signicant threat.

With an assist from NOI who stormed Ernie's hotel room to silently rearrange the furniture before exiting to instill in him what they could really do if they chose to.

I like your style.

I've argued before that Ali is the boxing equivelant of The Beatles, namely a great act that people snowballed into God-status, when in actual fact there were plenty better.

Make no mistake, he had some great fights, he beat some great boxers, but he also got his arse kicked plenty of times too (not that I'm saying getting beat makes you bad). And what would have happened if his glove wouldn't have been ripped when Henry Cooper knocked Ali senseless in their scrap? Bloody Hell!! Ali didn't even know what time it was after that knockdown, dude sat down on his stool and then got straight back up!!! Would Cooper have finished him off early in the next round? I dunno, as (obviously) does no-one else. But it's always a good pub discussion, ain't it?
