The undefeated lightweight contender Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield Jr returns to the ring in a 12-round fight against Rene “El Bravo” Tellez Girón at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on November 2.
Schofield, who trains out of Davies Boxing and Fitness in San Antonio, Texas made his debut on October 9, 2020, scoring a knockout over Richard Esquibel. He has since built out his undefeated, professional portfolio with a series of stoppage wins. He most recently defeated Esteuri Suero, who was disqualified in the fifth round for a low blow, an accumulation of point deductions, and poor sportsmanship.
“I am beyond excited for my return to the ring as the official main event, and to show the world what I’ve been working on,” said Schofield, (17-0, 12 KOs) of Austin.
“My goal is simple – become a world champion. My opponent has measured up against some tough contenders and will be looking to steal the show, but we won’t let him do that this time around.”
“I’m so excited about this fight, like none other so far in my career.” said the 20-3, 13 KOs Girón, who is from Querétaro, Mexico. “Floyd Schofield, he’s just another big-name guy in my way to the top of the lightweight division.
"I will win, my preparation is always great, that's why I just scored two big wins in my last two fights. I like upsets, I’m that guy that will take your heart. I’m a proud fighter of Mexico, I will win this fight for my country, I’m tough.”
In his past fight, Girón recorded a seventh-round stoppage of Alex Dilmaghani.
“I’ve always said that ‘Kid Austin’ has the ‘it’ factor to not only be a champion, but to be a global superstar,” said Golden Boy's Oscar De La Hoya. “Everyone knows that Schofield goes for the KO every time, but Girón has never been knocked out. This will be a real test for Floyd as he looks to continue his rise up the rankings.”
In the co-main event, Shoimbek, Uzbekistan’s Bektemir “Bek” Melikuziev, 14-1 (10 KOs), enters a 10-round WBA 168lbs eliminator against Golden Boy stablemate David “Dynamite” Stevens, who is of Reading, Pennsylvania and has a 14-1 (10 KOs) record.

They will also contest the Ring Magazine crown.
