Filip Hrgovic: record, next fight and profile →
Filip Hrgovic felt the need to let off some steam. The Croatian heavyweight contender lambasted promoter Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions in an interview that was conducted after one of Warren’s top fighters, heavyweight Joe Joyce, got stopped in the sixth round by Chinese underdog Zhilei Zhang.
Joe Joyce’s promoter commended him for taking what Frank Warren perceives as a more difficult fight Saturday night than the unbeaten Brit needed to embrace while awaiting the title shot he is owed.
Heavyweight contender Filip Hrgovic, who is the IBF’s mandatory challenger, is ready to face Oleksandr Usyk, the unified IBF, WBO, IBO and WBA champion. Hrgovic is among three mandatory challengers who are gunning for a crack at Usyk.
A heavyweight fight that was always a nonstarter is officially no longer in play. Representatives for the former unified heavyweight titlist informed the sanctioning body prior to Thursday’s scheduled purse bid hearing which was canceled as a result.
Filip Hrgovic will enjoy the favorable end of the purse split with Andy Ruiz. That’s if their fight actually sees the light of day. The IBF Board of Directors voted on Wednesday for the ordered Hrgovic-Ruiz interim IBF heavyweight title fight to carry a 60/40 split in favor of Hrgovic. The ruling comes ahead of the scheduled purse bid hearing due to take place Thursday, 12:00 p.m. ET at IBF headquarters in Springfield, New Jersey.
Plans have been expedited to find a taker for a heavyweight title fight that may not ultimately happen. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the 30-day period assigned to the Hrgovic-Ruiz interim IBF heavyweight title fight has concluded without the two sides reaching a deal. The sanctioning body notified all registered promoters that the ordered contest is now the subject of a February 28 purse bid hearing.

Though rivals, Filip Hrgovic had a healthy dose of both respect and fear for former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. While the former may still be present, the latter has ostensibly dissipated for Hrgovic.
A major roadblock has been cleared on the road to crowning an undisputed heavyweight champion. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the IBF has formally rescinded its previous order for its number-one heavyweight contender, Filip Hrgovic to next face unified WBA/IBF/WBO heavyweight titlist Oleksandr Usyk. The fight was demanded by the sanctioning body more than two months ago but Usyk is no longer on the hook to honor that ruling, at a point when talks continue for a hoped-for showdown with lineal/WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
