“This is a great opportunity for me to show that I still belong at the highest level of boxing. This is a tough fight. I will be facing a young undefeated fighter who is hungry to prove himself and I know how that feels, because I was in shoes once,” said Montiel who has won world titles at 112, 115 and 118 pounds.

“I will be ready to give the fans a great fight. This is the type of fight that I need to win, so I can get another opportunity to fight for a world championship and that’s what why I still in boxing,” said Montiel.

Last year in Phoenix, Arizona, Montiel took on Lee Selby for the IBF Featherweight title and he proved that he can still compete with the current crop of world champions.

“I felt I did very well against Selby a very difficult boxer to fight. It was a good competitive fight but I know that I can still do better than what I did that night in Phoenix”, added Montiel.

Montiel has been training in his hometown in Los Mochis for fight, under the tutelage of his brothers, Manuel, Eduardo and Pedro as well as his father, Manuel Montiel Sr.

“I have been training very hard because I know what is at stake here. This fight might be my last opportunity to continue my career at the highest level. I know that my professional career is coming to an end and I would like to get another shot at a world title before I am done with boxing,” said Montiel after a recent workout.

Montiel has been sparring with Eduardo Ramirez and Juan Carlos Sanchez, in training camp that begin back in January when he was due to fight in March.

“I started training in January for a fight against Abner Mares that was schedule for March 12 but was cancelled but I continue to work and when this fight was Lara came up I was ready to go. I think the Mares fight was very interesting but this is one with Lara will be just as interesting for the fans,” said Montiel.

“Lara is a good boxer who is doing very well right now and he will tough to beat, but I know what I still can do in the ring and this an opportunity to show everyone that I am a still very capable and deserved another shot at a world title,” said Montiel.
