Former champion Fernando Montiel (49-4-2, 37KOs) has promised to retire if he loses to Filipino contender Jaderes Padua (8-2-1, 5KOs) on June 22 at the Hotel Azul Ixtapa in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico. The vacant WBC International super bantamweight title will be at stake. Montiel lost twice in 2011, and then struggled in his 2012 victories against fringe contenders Giovanni Caro and Arturo Reyes.

"If I lose it will mean my retirement, because a slip of that size would mean that I have nothing to do in boxing. I do not want to leave anything to chance and therefore I'm training hard in the gym. I have a great motivation to return to the upper tier," Montiel said.
