As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Puerto Rican Olympian Felix "El Diamante" Verdejo is rebuilding his team - in the aftermath of suffering his first career defeat.

It was recently revealed that he added strength and conditioning coach Memo Heredia.

And how he's added a big piece of the puzzle - Evangelista Cotto, who is the uncle and former trainer of former four division world champion Miguel Cotto.

Evangelista Cotto is best known for grooming the career of his nephew Miguel and guiding him to world titles at 140 and 147 pounds.

The two would have a severe falling out, which even led to a physical altercation. They eventually wiped away the bad blood after Miguel Cotto's father (Evengelista's brother) passed away.

Ricky Marquez, the manager and head trainer of Verdejo, is very pleased with adding on Evangeslista. They have been working with the veteran coach for the last 2 weeks.

"I always had a good chemistry with Evangelista. I had considered other young coaches, but in the end I decided on Evangelista," confirmed Marquez to Carlos Gonzalez.

"I like his seriousness and his knowledge in the technical aspect. He has a lot of experience when he was with Miguel and that will help Felix's development.(Evangelista) is working as a co-trainer of Felix in all aspects. The chemistry has been very good between them. Evangelista himself has been surprised by the positive attitude of Felix in training and how easy it is to work with him."

Cotto, on the other hand, is more than happy to get back in the training mix and looks forward to grooming the talents of Verdejo.

"I was surprised they even called me though I knew they were looking for someone. Puerto Rico has a pool of coaches and anyone could do the job," said the experienced trainer.
