Hearn: Barker vs. Sturm Could Happen in December

ATLANTIC CITY — Fulfilled fight fans obviously will want to see a Darren Barker-Daniel Geale rematch after the slugfest they produced Saturday night, but it’ll have to wait. Eddie Hearn, whose company, Matchroom Sport, promotes England’s Barker, said after Barker’s split-decision defeat of Geale at Revel that Barker must first make a mandatory defense of his IBF title against Germany’s Felix Sturm. “We’ve got the Sturm mandatory,” Hearn said. “We’d be happy to make it in the UK in December.”

Shaw: Geale-Sturm Rematch Probably Next, Not Golovkin

ATLANTIC CITY — Promoter Gary Shaw hopes to eventually match Daniel Geale against Gennady Golovkin and/or Sergio Martinez, but he doesn’t expect either of those high-profile fights to be next for Geale if the IBF middleweight champion overcomes Darren Barker on Saturday night at Revel. If Geale beats Barker (25-1, 16 KOs) in their HBO “Boxing After Dark” main event, Shaw anticipates that the IBF will force a mandatory match between Australia’s Geale (29-1, 15 KOs) and Germany’s Felix Sturm (38-3-2, 17 KOs, 1 NC), whom Geale defeated by split decision Sept. 1 in Oberhausen, Germany. Sturm is ranked No. 2 in the IBF’s middleweight ratings. Australia’s Sam Soliman (42-11, 17 KOs, 1 NC), who is ranked No. 1 by the IBF, scored a unanimous decision victory over Sturm on Feb. 1 in Dusseldorf, Germany, but the result was changed to a no-contest because Soliman tested positive for an illegal stimulant.

IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale appeared on the most recent edition of BoxingScene Radio to talk to us about his upcoming fight against Darren Barker which will mark his debut on U.S. soil. He also spoke to us about potential opponents he may face in the future. If Geale is successful on Saturday, he will likely have to face his mandatory challenger Felix Sturm in his next fight. The fight would be a rematch of Geale's split decision victory over Sturm last September that took place in Germany. Three knockdowns by Sturm, who put Radosevic down once in the third and then finished him off with body damage for two more knockdowns in the fourth to force the intervention of Radosevic’s corner.

Cologne - The Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer (BDB) informed Sturm Box-Promotion on Sunday that they suspended professional boxer Sam Soliman after he failed a post-fight doping test in his February 1 fight against former World Champion Felix Sturm in Dusseldorf, Germany. The official result will therefore be overturned from a unanimous decision win for Soliman to a “No Contest”. The forbidden stimulant "methylsynephrine/oxilofrine“ was found in Soliman’s A-sample after the bout. He was then offered the opportunity to open the B-sample. According to the regulations of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), the agency in charge of testing for Sturm vs. Soliman, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) the B-sample has to opened in the same laboratory (here: the institute for biological chemistry in Cologne, Germany) as the A-sample. This was at first denied by the Soliman camp and they afterwards confessed to drinking an energy drink containing the substance in play, which confirms the A-sample. They claim, however, that this happened without their knowledge.
