The WBA "regular" heavyweight champion, Mahmoud Charr, will not defend the title against Jarrell Miller as was previously planned (or hoped).

According to the agreement with Charr and the WBA, the fight had to be finalized by October 14.

However, due to financial reasons the fight has not been made.

Instead, the WBA has issued a resolution where Charr has 60 days to put together a defense against an opponent from the current ratings. More to come!

French super welterweight Milan Prat was stripped of the EBU title yesterday (Oct 16). The title was not at stake in Prat's devastating loss against Slawa Spomer on Saturday night - but as he lost to a European opponent in his own weight division the EBU rules are clear on the matter and Prat is now a former champ.

Official challenger James Metcalf will now face the highest ranked available contender for the vacant title and that is German Abass Baraou (13-1).

The EBU has set October 30 as the deadline for purse bids or agreement.

Baraou is now reportedly no longer promoter by Wasserman Sport. He and Prat have ironically a long history together and a fight between them was booked several times but always fell through.

Former EBU super lightweight and Spanish champion Fernando Sanchez (44-11-2) has passed away at the age of 75, reports Espabox.

Sanchez turned pro in 1973 and won the EBU title in 1978 by stopping Colin Power. He lost the title a year later to Jose Luis Heredia.

The inductees to the Italian Hall of Fame 2023 are Salvatore Burrini (99-9-1, former EBU bantamweight champion and World title challenger), Silvio Branco (63-11-1 and as with all modern-day boxers he won and lost so many titles one can't keep track), Alessandro Duran (51-12), Stefano Zoff (43-12-1) and official Angelo Poletti.
