Errol Spence Jr.: record, next fight and profile →
Barry McGuigan, former world champion and fight promoter, would much rather see a welterweight unification between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence. But in recent news, Spence is heading in the direction of a three belt unification with Yordenis Ugas.
Former WBC, WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman says he is targeting a showdown with Errol Spence Jr “as soon as possible” and believes it would be a huge fight in the welterweight division.
Terence Crawford was in the same building with two of his divisional peers, yet still remains unconvinced that either one serves as a realistic option for his next fight. That said, there exists greater hope of a future showdown with Vergil Ortiz Jr. than with fellow welterweight titlist Errol Spence Jr.
Vergil Ortiz Jr. is confident of prevailing in this weekend’s battle of Dallas-based welterweights and eventually proving himself to be the area’s best overall fighter. Odds are in favor to prevail this weekend over Maurice Hooker, though Ortiz will have to go through another Dallas-bred welterweight to eventually prove regional bragging rights. The unbeaten knockout artist envisions a future showdown with reigning unified welterweight titlist and pound-for-pound entrant Errol Spence Jr. (27-0, 21KOs), though far enough down the road where both are already in pursuit of glory in another weight division.
The WBA elevated Yordenis Ugas to “super” champion recently, but Shawn Porter still feels Ugas needs to legitimize himself as a welterweight champ. If Ugas attempts to do that against Errol Spence Jr., Porter predicted during a recent appearance on “The Ak & Barak Show” that it won’t go well for the Cuban belt-holder. Ugas (26-4, 12 KOs), who almost upset Porter in March 2019, could become the next opponent for Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) because that fight would grant the IBF/WBC welterweight champ an opportunity to add another title to his collection.
Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford, is going to explore two potential opponents for his fighter. Former champions Manny Pacquiao and Shawn Porter are the names being mentioned by Arum, who wants to secure one of them for Crawford's next fight.
Justin Fortune, the strength and conditioning coach of eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao, gives the veteran boxer a good shot at defeating WBC, IBF welterweight beltholder Errol Spence. Pacquiao, 42-years-old, has been out of the ring since July of 2019, when he won a twelve round split decision over Keith Thurman to capture the WBA welterweight title.
WBO junior lightweight champion Jamel Herring says a mega-fight between welterweight world champions Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr “has to happen” and insists their social media back and forths are nothing personal.
Hall of Famer and former world champion Erik 'Terrible' Morales does not see the point of a possible fight between eight division champion Manny Pacquiao and undefeated WBC interim-lightweight champion Ryan Garcia.
Keith Thurman dubbed his last ring return as the start of a ‘get-back’ year. This time around, he wants to head straight to getting back what was once his. Chief in the sights of the former unified welterweight titlist is a showdown with the division’s current two-belt claimant, unbeaten pound-for-pound entrant Errol Spence Jr. (27-0, 21KOs). It’s not about easing his way back into the ring for Thurman; rather, storming his way back to the top of the division.
