WBA junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara is hoping that his next fight, against undefeated Terrell Gausha, will be the final step before facing the other champions in his weight division. Lara's fight with Gausha will top a Showtime televised tripleheader on October 14 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
An intriguing super welterweight title bout between champion Jermell Charlo and mandatory challenger Erickson Lubin will cap off a packed night of televised boxing October 14. BoxingScene.com has been informed that an announcement is imminent regarding a Showtime tripleheader featuring the Charlo-Lubin bout from Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Houston’s Charlo (29-0, 14 KOs) will defend his WBC 154-pound championship against the 21-year-old Lubin (18-0, 13 KOs), a highly regarded contender from Orlando, Florida.
Despite rumblings that Erislandy Lara, the WBA 'super' champion at 154, was taking a stay-busy bout in the fall, the representatives of Demetrius Andrade (who holds the 'regular' version of that title) believe they are next in line to face the Cuban southpaw.
By defeating Jack Culcay on March 11th in Germany, Demetrius Andrade (24-0, 16 KOs) captured the 'regular' version of the WBA 154-pound title and he believed a shot was secured at the WBA 'super champion' Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs).
New York- Highly regarded as one of the most talented super welterweights, Demetrius Andrade (24-0, 18 KO’s) has found himself inactive since March of this year. The trend of fighting once a year has been something Andrade has not been a stranger to. Since 2014 he’s been in the ring with only a single outing per year.
Artie Pelullo and Ed Farris were as surprised as anyone when they learned Erislandy Lara claimed Demetrius Andrade had priced himself out of their inevitable fight. Pelullo, Andrade’s co-promoter, and Farris, the unbeaten boxer’s manager, both told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday that Lara’s handlers have twice turned down a fight against Andrade, long before how much money Andrade would make was even discussed. They’re particularly bothered by Lara’s claim because the sole reason Andrade agreed to travel to Germany last month to fight for the WBA’s “world” 154-pound title was to put the 2008 Olympian into position to become the mandatory challenger for Lara’s WBA “super” 154-pound title.
According to WBA, IBO junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs), he was looking forward to facing Olympian Demetrius Andrade (24-0, 16 KOs), but claims the fight fell apart over money. Andrade captured the WBA's "regular" version of the world title when he traveled to Germany last month to win a twelve round decision over Jack Culcay.
WBA, IBO junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (24-2-2, 14 KOs) had Daniel Jacobs defeating Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) last month at New York's Madison Square Garden. Jacobs became the first boxer to extend Golovkin to the full twelve round distance. Going into the the contest, Golovkin had stopped 23 opponents in a row.
