Erickson Lubin: record, next fight and profile →
Having racked up three straight early knockouts, Erickson Lubin sought an opportunity to showcase his improved boxing skills. The young junior middleweight contender found that in a game late replacement opponent in Nathaniel Gallimore, whom he outpointed over 10 rounds Saturday evening at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Nathaniel Gallimore’s next fight takes mere hours after Patrick Day was laid to rest, another kind soul whose memory he will choose to carry into the ring. Day was laid to rest on Saturday in his Long Island (New York) home region, having passed away on Oct. 16. His death came four days after his 10th round knockout loss to Charles Conwell in their Oct. 12 DAZN-streamed bout in Chicago, Illinois. The event took place less than 20 minutes from the Garfield Park Gym where Gallimore for years trained, a facility which carries a mural dedicated to the memory of more than 20 boxers whose lives were tragically taken far too soon.
Nathaniel Gallimore got the call on Oct. 2 to be the replacement opponent for Erickson Lubin. Terrell Gausha, the original foe, suffered an injury to his left hand that required surgery, and in stepped Gallimore. He’s embraced the “next man up” attitude for his newfound opportunity ever since, as the junior middleweight contender is headlining the Showtime-televised fight on 24 days notice.
The reaction to his being informed of a new opponent was the same as when Erickson Lubin was first told about his next fight date. “I was ready for it the moment they told me I was fighting,” Lubin (21-1, 16KOs) told BoxingScene.com. “I don’t care who they put in the ring this Saturday. It didn’t matter when it was Terrell Gausha, doesn’t matter to me now that it’s Nathaniel Gallimore. The minute they told I was fighting on Oct. 26, we went right back to work.”
