Emmanuel Rodriguez: record, next fight and profile →
Former bantamweight world champion Emmanuel Rodriguez is very focused on his upcoming fight with unbeaten rising contender Reymart Gaballo. On Saturday night, they will collide for the vacant WBC interim-bantamweight world championship in the main event of a Showtime televised tripleheader.
There reached a point where Emmanuel Rodriguez no longer cared who was next. It’s been a long road back to the ring for the former bantamweight titlist, who was always going to fight this weekend regardless of opposition. Rodriguez’s role on this Saturday’s Showtime telecast began as a standby opponent in the event that either side of the original headliner fell through.
Emmanuel Rodriguez will face a Filipino fighter December 19 after all. Premier Boxing Champions and Showtime announced Friday that Puerto Rico’s Rodriguez and the Philippines’ Reymart Gaballo will square off in the main event of the network’s tripleheader a week from Saturday night. The WBC has agreed to sanction the 12-round, 118-pound battle between Rodriguez (19-1, 12 KOs) and Gaballo (23-0, 20 KOs) as a fight for its interim bantamweight world championship at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
COVID-19 has impacted Showtime’s December 19 tripleheader yet again. BoxingScene.com has learned that Nonito Donaire has tested positive for the coronavirus and has withdrawn from his WBC bantamweight title fight against Emmanuel Rodriguez. Donaire was supposed to face France’s Nordine Oubaali in Showtime’s main event that night, but Oubaali tested positive for COVID-19 and was replaced last month by Rodriguez.
The final Showtime boxing event of 2020 has a new date along with its entire lineup taking new shape from original form. Former four-division titlist Nonito Donaire aims for his third bantamweight reign as the legendary Fil-Am boxer faces Puerto Rico’s Emmanuel Rodriguez atop a Showtime tripleheader, which airs live December 19 from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The bout is the first for both boxers since their respective runs in the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) bantamweight tournament in 2019.
Emmanuel “Manny” Rodriguez feels fortunate to receive the opportunity that he will have on December 19, when he fights for the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight world title against four division champion Nonito Donaire. These will face each other in the main event of a Showtime televised card, which takes place at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Unscaville, Connecticut.
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has issued an official order pertaining to the bantamweight division. WBC bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali was scheduled to make a mandatory defense of his title on December 19, in a Shotwime televised main event against Nonito Donaire.
Nonito Donaire has a new opponent and a different date for his next fight. “The Filipino Flash” was supposed to challenge WBC bantamweight champ Nordine Oubaali on December 12 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. BoxingScene.com has learned that visa issues have prevented Oubaali from receiving clearance to travel from France to the United States, however, thus Donaire instead will meet Emmanuel Rodriguez in a main event Showtime will televise December 19 from Mohegan Sun Arena.
In an exclusive interview, Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue breaks down his incredible WBSS journey which saw him winning the Muhammad Ali Trophy and unifying the IBF & WBA titles after wins over Juan Carlos Payano, Emmanuel Rodriguez & Nonito Donaire.
Emmanuel Rodriguez was prepared to teach Luis Nery a lesson in the ring. It was instead served up at the negotiating table. The pair of former bantamweight titlists were due to square off last Saturday in support to Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight title fight rematch with Luis Ortiz at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their Fox Sports Pay Per View opener fell through, however, after Mexico’s Nery (30-0, 24KOs) missed weight by a full pound, refusing to shed the extra poundage in the allotted two-hour time frame following Friday’s official weigh-in.
