Elvis Rodriguez: record, next fight and profile →
Elvis Rodriguez continues to maintain a perfect knockout-to-win ratio. The latest contribution to that cause came in the form of a 3rd round stoppage of Cody Wilson in their 144-pound catchweight bout Saturday evening from MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.
All that Elvis Rodriguez can continue to do is train to go rounds. The Dominican southpaw certainly isn’t getting them on fight night, having racked up eight knockouts in as many career wins. The one fight to not go that route, ended in just 2 ½ minutes as Santo Domingo's Rodriguez (8-0-1, 8KOs) was forced to settle for a technical draw in a cut-shortened clash with Joaquin Chavez in his third pro fight last June.
Jose Ramirez and Viktor Postol passed the next-to-last hurdle Friday before they can finally fight Saturday night. Ramirez and Postol both made weight for their 12-round, 140-pound title fight, which will headline a six-bout card ESPN+ will stream from MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. Ramirez stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 139.8 pounds, slightly heavier than Postol, who officially weighed 139.7 pounds.
The Dominican Republic’s Elvis “The Dominican Kid” Rodriguez, returns on the Jose Ramirez-Viktor Postol/Arnold Barboza Jr.-Tony Luis undercard Saturday, Aug. 29 for his third appearance inside the MGM Grand “Bubble." Rodriguez will fight Cody Wilson in a six-round welterweight bout as part of the exclusive undercard stream on ESPN+ (7:30 p.m. ET).
The look on a stunned Dennis Okoth’s face told viewers everything they needed to know about how hard Elvis Rodriguez hit him in the second round Tuesday night. The powerful southpaw’s precise, straight left hand caught Okoth directly on his chin, dumped him flat on his back and made referee Tony Weeks immediately wave an end to their scheduled six-round welterweight bout in Las Vegas. The undefeated Dominican prospect knocked out Okoth at 2:33 of the second round at MGM Grand Conference Center.
The weigh-in for Oscar Valdez’s televised fight Tuesday night was quite different than when he weighed in the day before his last fight. Valdez’s opponent, Jayson Velez, was heavier than Valdez when they stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale Monday, but Velez wasn’t absurdly overweight. Puerto Rico’s Velez (29-6-1, 21 KOs) officially weighed in at 130 pounds, the contracted maximum for their 10-round junior lightweight fight.
The first run of Top Rank on ESPN shows inside the MGM Grand “Bubble” will conclude with former featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez, ranked No. 1 by the WBC and WBO at junior lightweight, facing former world title challenger Jayson Velez in the 10-round main event Tuesday, July 21, inside the MGM Grand Conference Center.
Elvis Rodriguez maintained his perfect knockout-to-win ratio. The Freddie Roach-trained Dominican southpaw made quick work of Danny Murray, scoring a 1st round knockout Thursday evening at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jose Pedraza and Mikkel LesPierre have literally been here before. This time around, they hope to make it beyond the scale and into the ring. For the second time in two weeks, both boxers made weight for a scheduled ESPN headliner. The two are scheduled to collide atop a six-fight card, which takes place Thursday evening at MGM Grand Conference Center (“The Bubble”) in Las Vegas beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
Jose Pedraza and Mikkel LesPierre will give it another shot. The junior welterweights will face off in the 10-round main event Thursday, July 2 from the MGM Grand Conference Center—Grand Ballroom. Pedraza-LesPierre was originally scheduled for June 18, but the bout was postponed after LesPierre’s manager tested positive for COVID-19.
