Shrine Exposition Center, Los Angeles - Hot welterweight prospect Eimantas Stanionis (12-0, 9 KOs) dropped Janer Gonzalez (19-4-1, 15 KOs) three times before the contest was waved off in the ninth round.
Gonzalez came in on a three fight losing streak, with defeats to Radzhab Butaev, Jamal James and Ivan Golub.
Stanionis came out pressing the action in the first, with Gonzalez circling the ring and firing a jab to keep the puncher back. By the end of the round, Stanionis began to let his punches go.
Gonzalez was letting hard shots go in the second, with many of them being blocked. Stanionis was connecting with the much harder punches as they were trading at close range. A big left hook to the body sent Gonzalez down and he was hurting. He barely beat the count and continued to take punches until the bell.
Stanionis came out stalking in the third round, with Gonzalez still looking to work the ring and throw counters when the openings were there. More of the same in the fourth, with Stanionis going down and then back up with his shots.
There wasn't much of a difference as the fight played out. Stanionis continued to land the harder shots and the more accurate connects. During the eight, Stanionis landed a big uppercut that dropped Gonzalez for a second time. He was hurt, but when he got to his feet the bell ended the round.
In the ninth, a big overhand right dropped Gonzalez for a third time against the ropes and the contest was wisely waved off.
