Egis Kavaliauskas: record, next fight and profile →
Unbeaten Egidijus Kavaliauskas has been pushed towards the deeper end of the pool that is the deep welterweight division with each fight. He has passed each test thus far towards the possibility of fighting for a world title belt in 2019.

OMAHA, Nebraska – Bob Arum admits he would rather match Terence Crawford against Errol Spence Jr. or another welterweight champion next. In the likely event that typical boxing obstacles prevent any of those fights from happening next, Arum acknowledges that Egidijus Kavaliauskas is toward the top of the list of Crawford’s possible opponents in 2019. Like Crawford (35-0, 24 KOs), Lithuania’s Kavaliauskas is promoted by Arum’s company, Top Rank Inc.
Losing its main event might’ve cost ESPN viewers Saturday night. Nielsen Media Research ratings released Tuesday indicated that the network’s two-bout boxing broadcast from Fresno, California, was watched by an average of 534,000 viewers. That’s the lowest viewership for one of Top Rank’s live prime-time telecasts on ESPN since an average audience of 488,000 tuned in to watch a card headlined by Jose Ramirez’s unanimous-decision victory over Amir Imam in their 12-round WBC super lightweight title fight March 17 in The Theater at Madison Square Garden.
Egidijus “The Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas suffered a cut in the opening round, but he was not deterred, turning back Juan Carlos Abreu via unanimous decision by scores of 97-93, 97-93, and 96-94 to retain the NABF welterweight title in the ESPN-televised main event Saturday evening at the Save Mart Center.

Egidijus Kavaliauskas couldn’t knock out Juan Carlos Abreu on Saturday night. The welterweight contender nicknamed “Mean Machine” managed to win a unanimous decision, though, and might’ve moved closer to a shot at WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford. Lithuania’s Kavaliauskas was scored the winner of their 10-round, 147-pound bout by all three judges at at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
