Bill Emes catches up with super middleweight Edwin Rodriguez, who discusses his recent TKO win on HBO, what he wants to do next and more.

Super middleweight Edwin Rodriguez landed 49 power shots in round one, never letting Jason Escalera in the fight. Rodriguez landed 58% of his power shots.

Super middleweight contender Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez (22-0, 15KOs) believes that he has what it takes to defeat former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (40-2, 34KOs). Following Saturday's victory over Jason Escalera, Rodriguez called for a fight with Pavlik. His promoter, Lou DiBella, wants to make that fight happen. Both of them have a common opponent Will Rosinsky, and both defeated him by decision.

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — Jason Escalera really aggravated Edwin Rodriguez during the promotion of their HBO main event Saturday night. Rodriguez made Escalera pay for talking trash by battering his game-but-green opponent throughout their seven-plus rounds of one-sided action at MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Referee Steve Smoger mercifully prevented Escalera from taking more punishment when he jumped it to stop the bout 12 seconds into the eighth round of a scheduled 10-round super middleweight match that was televised as the main event of an “Boxing After Dark” tripleheader.

by Cliff Rold - 27-year old Dominican Super Middleweight Edwin Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KO) of Worcester, Massachusetts, took another step towards contention in a thick weight class, laying a devastating beating on previously undefeated 27-year old Jason Escalera (13-1-1, 12 KO) of Union City, New Jersey, and scoring an eighth round stoppage on Saturday night at the Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut. Rodriguez came into the bout three pounds under the division limit at 165 lbs., Escalera a pound more at 166. The referee was Steve Smoger. It didn’t take long for the more professionally experienced Rodriguez to get to work on Escalera. Rocking right hands freed the mouthpiece of Escalera repeatedly and had Smoger calling for Escalera to fight back. Escalera tried, and continued to eat power shots for his trouble. His legs moving in ways the rest of his body didn’t seem in sync with, Escalera managed to keep his feet for all three minutes but it was a fine example of when a standing 10-8 score could be in order.

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — Joe Botti realizes even those immersed in boxing don’t know much about Jason Escalera away from the local level. That, according to Escalera’s trainer/father figure, is about to change. Botti wrote on Facebook the morning of Escalera’s biggest fight that the heavy-handed underdog is prepared to make “a dynamic introduction” to fight fans worldwide in an HBO main event Saturday night. Botti and Escalera understand, of course, that becoming the first professional fighter to defeat emerging super middleweight contender Edwin Rodriguez won’t be an easy task. It is an assignment, however, that Escalera is certain he can handle.

MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, Mashantucket, Connecticut - A battle of unbeaten super middleweights saw Edwin Rodriguez (22-0, 15KOs) battered Jason Escalera (13-1-1, 12KOs) over eight rounds to secure a TKO victory and retains his USBA super middleweight title.

The weights are in for Saturday's HBO Boxing After Dark telecast at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods® Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT. Jason "Monstruo" Escalera (13-0-1, 12KO's) takes on current USBA super middleweight champion Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez (21-0, 14KO's). Rodriguez-Escalera is scheduled for 10 rounds, and will be the main event bout of the evening. The fight is take place at a catch-weight of 166. Rodriguez came in at 166 and Escalera was 165.

Undefeated super middleweight Edwin Rodriguez, 21-0 (14 KOs), hopes to prove a point against Jason Escalera, 13-0-1 (12 KOs), at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, CT, this Saturday night: that he's willing and ready to face the elites in the star-studded super middleweight division. At the top of the heap of the 168-pounders, of course, is Super Six champ Andre Ward, who recently reaffirmed his superiority in the division with a dominant TKO over WBC light heavyweight titleholder Chad Dawson. Then there's the likes of Carl Froch, Kelly Pavlik and Mikkel Kessler, top-shelf fighters who trail Ward in achievement but exceed him in terms of selling power. Rodriguez said he has no qualms about fighting in Europe should the opportunity arise.

New York, NY - Earlier today, at the beautiful and brand new Mendez Boxing Club located at 23 East 26th Street in Manhattan, Puerto Rican knockout artist Jason "Monstruo" Escalera (13-0-1, 12KO's) and his trainer/manager Joe Botti, hosted an open media workout in preparation of Escalera's upcoming bout this Saturday night against fellow undefeated contender and current USBA super middleweight champion Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez (21-0, 14KO's). Rodriguez-Escalera is scheduled for 10 rounds, and will be the main event bout of the evening on the HBO Boxing After Dark telecast, coming to you live from the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods® Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT.
