Isaac Cruz once again lived up to his ‘Pitbull’ moniker. The compact lightweight contender from Mexico City was relentless in a second-round knockout of countryman Eduardo Ramirez. Cruz scored two knockdowns, the latter prompting an immediate stoppage at 2:22 into the second round of their WBC lightweight title eliminator Sunday evening at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The last time Isaac Cruz fought in Los Angeles, it was in a headlining fight against Gervonta Davis. The fight closed the curtains for the arena formerly known as the Staples Center, which is now billed as the Crypto.com Arena.

Isaac Cruz had barely five weeks to prepare for the biggest moment of his career to date. The top-rated lightweight contender came up just short in a hard-fought battle with secondary WBA lightweight titlist Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis last December at Staples Center (now Crypto.com Arena) in Los Angeles. Cruz stepped in for Rolando Romero in short notice, dropping a twelve-round decision but fighting well enough to end Davis’ 16-fight knockout streak.
