By Thomas Gerbasi - Dmitry Bivol laughs when I compliment him as the most patient man in boxing. “The most patient? Why?” Well, this was supposed to be the breakout year for the WBA light heavyweight champion, a star on the rise with the unbeaten record to go along with it. But when he steps into the ring at Wintrust Arena in Chicago this...

WBA light heavyweight world champion Dmitry Bivol is still waiting for an opponent, and hopes to fight again before the year is out. Returning to Los Angeles to commence training last week, WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion, Dmitry Bivol, (16-0-0, 11 KOs), is seeking the toughest challenges and the biggest fights next for his career. WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (16-0, 11 KOs) is ready for a mandatory title defense against unbeaten Marcus Browne, said Russian boxer's manager Vadim Kornilov. On March 9th, Bivol retained the world title in a defense with Joe Smith. The WBA's interim champion Browne is undefeated in 23 fights.
Two interesting fights on paper ended up being a little more interesting in theory than in execution. At welterweight, Shawn Porter-Yordenis Ugas ended up being the sort of difficult to score contest many envisioned. For some, the final outcome may have been controversial. Porter retains the WBC belt. There was certainly some debate to be had about how the official judges scored the fight. In particular, the difference between a loss and a draw for Ugas was Max DeLuca somehow scoring the final round, one of the few that appeared to be clear for either man in the fight, for Porter. That made the fight 7-5 from him, or a win for Porter.
