Joe Smith Jr. always knew Dmitry Bivol had a good chance of upsetting Canelo Alvarez to the extent that he was willing to put some coin behind his opinion.

Eddie Hearn was simply amused by the slew of critical comments fellow rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently made about him. De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, recently took aim at Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, essentially questioning the British promoter’s boxing acumen and, most of all, blaming him for Canelo Alvarez’s recent defeat to Dmitry Bivol. The Russian titlist defeated Alvarez in May by unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in their 175-pound WBA title bout.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is standing firm on his belief that rival promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom made a big mistake by finalizing the encounter between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol.

It’s now or never for Joshua Buatsi as it pertains to fighting for a world title, according to his promoter. Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, which promotes the 29-year-old light heavyweight contender, believes Buatsi has nowhere else to go but to compete for a world title at this point.

Eddie Hearn has no doubt that Dmitry Bivol is now the man to beat in the light heavyweight division. The Russian 175-pound WBA titleholder picked up a career best win last month with a unanimous decision over Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez in their 12-round light heavyweight title bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol is already preparing for his next ring return, according to his promoter. Earlier this month, Bivol picked up a career defining victory when he outboxed pound-for-pound star Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez over twelve rounds to secure a dominant unanimous decision win.

Dmitry Bivol will have to wait another year to swap punches with Canelo Alvarez. The Russian light heavyweight titleholder will likely defend his WBA bauble in the fall after the recent news that Alvarez decided to pivot toward a trilogy bout with Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17 on DAZN pay-per-view.

Canelo Alvarez could decide whether Joshua Buatsi gets the title shot he wants next. Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed after Buatsi’s win against Craig Richards on Saturday night that he would like to bring a Dmitry Bivol-Buatsi fight to O2 Arena in London later this year. Bivol’s schedule is dependent on Alvarez, however, because the Mexican icon can exercise an immediate rematch clause in his contract that would entitle him to a second shot at Bivol’s WBA light heavyweight title in his next fight.

Former world super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) is applying further pressure to get a crack at World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has indicated that he will likely move forward with a scheduled trilogy fight against Gennadiy Golovkin in the month of September.
