Canelo Alvarez’s apparent desire for a rematch with Dmitry Bivol is not one shared by his inner circle, according to the manager of the Russian champion.

The window of opportunity is rapidly closing for Dmitry Bivol to land a stay-busy fight ahead of a lucrative rematch with the sport’s biggest star. Talks are ongoing but looking grim to secure a targeted June 17 date for a voluntary defense of his WBA title. Bivol—who is co-promoted by Matchroom Boxing and World of Boxing—aimed to get at least one more fight, but could instead wait out the May 6 Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez-John Ryder undisputed super middleweight championship before finalizing his next move.

Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez may have an upcoming fight with John Ryder, but he firmly has his eyes set on WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

At least some of Canelo Alvarez's fans were none too pleased following his recent announcement. After spending the last few years facing the very best at both the super middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, Alvarez will return to the ring to take on a far lesser foe. On May 6th, in his hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico, Alvarez will test out his surgically repaired left hand on the noggin of John Ryder.

Oscar De La Hoya has urged his former star client to pursue his next several fights with some semblance of urgency. De La Hoya, the head of Golden Boy Promotion, was pleased to hear that Canelo Alvarez will be returning to his homeland of Mexico for the first time in over a decade to defend his four 168-pound titles against London’s John Ryder May 6 at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara.

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn has promoted six out of Canelo Alvarez’s last seven fights. The seventh Hearn-promoted Alvarez event will take place on May 6 in Guadalajara, Mexico when the undisputed super middleweight champion Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) defends his titles against British challenger John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs).

Former WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia will not be involved in a fight against WBA 175-pound champion Dmitry Bivol in the near future, according to the Mexican boxer's promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer.

LOS ANGELES — If David Benavidez can’t secure the big fights he’s been wanting at 168 pounds featuring the foursome of undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez as well as the likes of David Morrell, Jermall Charlo, and Demetrius Andrade, “The Mexican Monster” has maintained that he will move up to 175 pounds.

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez was well aware of the dangers that stood before him. Yet, heading into his showdown against Dmitry Bivol, the former super middleweight belt holder wholeheartedly believed that he had more than enough in his offensive tool bag to get the job done.

Former world super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-1, 30 KOs) returns to the ring this Saturday for the first time during his 13 ½-year pro career after suffering a loss.
