Dillian Whyte has sympathized with an embarrassed Kash Ali, who recently issued an apology after he was disqualified from his heavyweight clash with David Price last Saturday.

Ali was ushered out of the Echo Arena in Price's home city of Liverpool in shame after biting his fellow Brit during the fifth round.

The 27-year-old, who has since had his licence suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control. He faces a suspension and his entire purse was held.

Whyte believes the pressure of the moment was too much for Ali to handle and he mentally broke down in the fifth round, when Price had him in trouble. Ali, who got rocked by a big counter, tackled Price to the floor and bit him.

"I can’t explain to you the pressure and the power that goes into heavyweight boxing," Whyte told Express Sport.

"When you’ve got a guy, 19st, 6ft 8in, punching you smack in the face, it makes you do crazy stuff sometimes. But to compete at heavyweight you’ve got to be a bit crazy anyway, you know. Kash Ali is a good boy, I think the occasion got to him, but these things happen. It’s not the first time a fighter has bitten someone. Mike Tyson did, Dereck Chisora did. Everyone’s making a big deal about it.

"It’s not very sportsman-like but you can’t understand the pressure that goes into a heavyweight fighter’s mindset on the day. The pressure is immense, nothing simulates it. You can train, have 100 fights, but when the big occasion comes…I’ve had it before but managed to hold myself together. Kash is a good guy, quiet guy, family man, peaceful man. But for him to act that way goes to show you the immense pressure."
