There will be a lot at stake when former champion Amir Khan and Devon Alexander collide in a welterweight contest on December 13th from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will headline a Showtime televised tripleheader.

Both Khan and Alexander are hoping to secure a shot at the WBC/WBA welterweight champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs). Khan wasted most of his 2013, and part of 2014, waiting around to get Mayweather in the ring. Mayweather instead faced Marcos Maidana, twice.

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya has promised to secure a shot at Mayweather for the winner.

“The big prize is there for the winner and that is a fight against the Mayweathers of this world. I sure do expect to get [the winner] the Floyd Mayweather fight. Amir’s been wanting the major names in boxing for quite a while because he deserves it,” De La Hoya said.
