Monday night was the official kick-off press conference for the May 5th rematch at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas between middleweight ruler Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez.
Both fighters met with the press and the public at the LA Live and the head of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya, made the rounds with the media.
When asked what he'd like to see from the sport of boxing in 2018, De La Hoya told BoxingScene.com - "Just the best fighting the best. I want to see 'Canelo' continue fighting the very best. I want to see maybe a trilogy here or even four fights like (Manny)Pacquiao-(Juan Manuel) Marquez."
And De La Hoya seems to be particularly bullish on one boxer out there - IBF welterweight world champion Errol Spence (23-0, 20 KOs).
"I want to see (Errol) Spence steamroll right through everybody at 147," De La Hoya stated.
"I strongly feel that a Spence with a (Keith) Thurman or anybody in the welterweight or junior middleweight division would be a fantastic fight. So I'm very high on Spence. I think that if Spence had a promoter who was helping him and working with him, he could've been a superstar already - and if he was with HBO, obviously."
Spence who is with Premiere Boxing Champions is advised by Al Haymon and does not have a full-time dedicated promoter.
"But I can't knock him because look, he's doing a great job inside the ring. I just would've wished that he had a promoter to do a great job for him outside the ring," said De La Hoya.
Spence retained his world title last month with a TKO win over Lamont Peterson. He returns on June 16 in Dallas, Texas in a mandatory defense against unbeaten Carlos Ocampo.
