A Mexican civil war is in store for Telemundo’s next installment in its monthly ‘Boxeo Telemundo’ series. All-Star Boxing officially announced the headliner for the July 13 show in Mexico City, as Edgar Jimenez takes on countryman Julian Rivera in a 12-round flyweight battle.
A regional belt is at stake in their bout, which airs live on Telemundo at 11:35PM ET.
Jimenez (15-6-1, 11KO) enjoyed a nice run for most of 2011, including wins over Eric Ortiz and Juanito Rubillar. However, his luck ran out last December in suffering a knockout loss to Odilon Zaleta on a strange night of action in Puebla, MX that saw a pair of upset knockouts in supporting action.
The showdown with Rivera marks Jimenez’ first fight back since the loss to Zaleta.
Conversely, Rivera (10-6-1, 2KO) comes in at a high point in his career. The Mexico City journeyman had struggled to identify himself in the pro ranks, but enters the fight on the heels of his biggest win to date, a unanimous decision over Sergio Frias this past April.
Also appearing on the card is a pair of Argentinean fringe contenders.
Pablo Farias (20-2-1, 12KO) continues to bounce back from his disappointing showing against Arthur Abraham earlier this year. The super middleweight guns for his second straight win after having previously lost two in a row.
Joining him on the card is former welterweight title challenger Rodolfo Martinez. As is the case with Farias, a second straight win is sought for Martinez, who was stopped in 12 rounds by Jan Zaveck in a failed title bid two years ago.
