Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar de la Hoya is really looking forward to the fight between Miguel Cotto and Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez, scheduled for June 7th at New York's Madison Square Garden.
De La Hoya was in Puerto Rico for the final stop of the press tour for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Erislandy Lara, which takes place on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He is very interesting in making a fight between the winners of both upcoming fights.
Cotto was at one point set to face Canelo in early 2013, but lost an upset decision to Austin Trout in December 2012. Trout then lost a close decision to Canelo. Golden Boy once again explored a Canelo-Cotto bout earlier this year, but Cotto passed on a $10 million dollar offer to face Martinez for his WBC middleweight crown.
"[Cotto-Martinez is] a very, very interesting fight and it will be a good fight. I wish both of them luck. Martinez is a great fighter and so is Cotto, and the winner is in line to face Lara or Canelo," De La Hoya said.
