Ben Davison has lifted the lid on Roy Jones Jr’s support for Tyson Fury before ‘The Gypsy King’ even began his famous comeback.
In this week’s iFL TV interview, former four division world champion Jones Jr heaped praise on unbeaten Fury – drawing comparisons between the current world heavyweight king and the great Muhammad Ali – but Davison has revealed the American’s patronage goes way back.
Jones himself was a former heavyweight world champion, when he moved up in weight - from light heavyweight to heavyweight - to capture the WBA title with a twelve round unanimous decision over John Ruiz in 2013 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Davison said: “Very often, people will pop up only when somebody hits the peak and want to give advice or tell everyone what they can offer.
“Roy came to see Tyson before the comeback had even officially started and he said exactly what he claims he did.
“Roy believed in and showed support to Tyson when people thought he was a joke. He gave Tyson a boost in confidence that he can do it and can be successful in a comeback when everybody said he couldn’t. Roy Jones is a legend inside and outside of the ring.”
