Luis DeCubas doesn’t haphazardly heap praise on boxers. Having worked with Roberto Duran and such successful Cuban boxers as Joel Casamayor, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Erislandy Lara and Guillermo Rigondeaux, DeCubas knows elite-level talent when he sees it. DeCubas believes David Morrell Jr. will become more than just the 24th world champion with whom he has worked.
David Morrell Jr. was all of six years old when Lennox Allen first turned pro in 2004. Somehow, both have managed to arrive at the title stage at the same time. Allen gets his first bid at a major belt 16 years into his career, as the unbeaten southpaw collides with Morrell for the interim version of the WBA super middleweight title. For Morrell (2-0, 2KOs), it comes less than one year as a pro and in just his third fight.
The Jamal James-Thomas Dulorme fight finally is official. FOX and Premier Boxing Champions announced the rescheduled James-Dulorme match Thursday as the main event of the broadcast network’s August 8 card from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Las Vegas’ Dulorme (25-3-1, 16 KOs) and Minneapolis’ James (26-1, 12 KOs) will fight for the WBA interim welterweight title.
The sites are set for Premier Boxing Champions’ cards early in August. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Showtime’s telecast August 1 will air from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Showtime will televise numerous “Showtime Championship Boxing” cards from Mohegan Sun over the subsequent several months.
Top welterweight and Minneapolis native Jamal "Shango" James will face former title challenger Thomas Dulorme for the Interim WBA Welterweight Title in the FOX PBC Fight Night main event and on FOX Deportes Saturday, April 11 as James returns to The Armory in Minneapolis for his fifth-straight fight.
