Earlier this month, the WBO confirmed that cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie would make a mandatory defense against David Light in London on March 11.

Lawrence Okolie has every intention of his next fight taking place without Matchroom Boxing. The unbeaten WBO cruiserweight titlist will move forward with his mandatory title defense versus number-one contender David Light. A deal was reached within the one-week extension period, thus avoiding a purse bid hearing that was scheduled to take place on Thursday at WBO headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Per both camps, their fight will take place on March 11 at an unspecified location in Okolie’s London hometown, with Boxxer to present the event. The agreement was presented to the WBO via email, with both camps and the sanctioning body copied on the correspondence from which Matchroom was intentionally omitted.

A seven-day extension was granted for Lawrence Okolie and David Light to reach terms for their ordered WBO cruiserweight title fight. The ruling came on the eve of a scheduled purse bid hearing to have determined promotional rights for the contest, and

The legal status surrounding Lawrence Okolie’s promotional status has prompted an immediate change of plans for the sanctioning body whose title he holds. A December 14 purse bid hearing has been scheduled by the WBO just one day after instructing Okolie and his team to enter talks with New Zealand’s David Light for a mandatory cruiserweight title defense. The ordered title fight sparked a series of emails from within Okolie’s fractured team, leading the Puerto Rico-headquartered sanctioning body to find a resolution that would at least allow the fight to move forward.

Brandon Glanton and David Light went toe to toe last Friday evening on ProBox TV, in a fight that many thought Glanton edged, however, it was Light who went home with the split decision victory.

David Light could not have picked a better time to land a career-best win. The celebration tour for the unbeaten New Zealander will now include a fresh round of talks for a shot at WBO cruiserweight titlist Lawrence Okolie. The two sides were instructed by the WBO on Monday to enter negotiations for a mandatory title fight, coming on the heels of Light’s upset split decision win over Brandon Glanton just three days ago.

David Light’s trip halfway around the world was well worthwhile. The cruiserweight contender from New Zealand scored an upset Friday night by beating Brandon Glanton in their entertaining 10-round elimination match at White Sands Events Center in Plant City Florida. Light (20-0, 12 KOs) took Glanton’s power well until the 10th round, when he was knocked down, displayed craft while working mostly from short distances and out-pointed the previously unbeaten Glanton by split decision in a proverbial phone-booth bout.

The last time Brandon Glanton fought an undefeated opponent, the cruiserweight contender defeated Efetobor Apochi in what was one of the most memorable action fights of 2021.

Paulie Malignaggi is used to world title fights, having partaken in his fair share over the years, and this coming Friday in Tampa, Florida, Malignaggi will be on the mic once more, as he brings his analytical expertise to ProBox TV, where Brandon Glanton will take on David Light in a battle that would see the winner move closer towards a showdown with WBO world cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okolie.

Rising cruiserweight star Brandon Glanton is ready to risk it all, as he takes on David Light on December 2 at the ProBox TV Events Center, Plant City, Florida.
