Former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion David Haye (28-2, 26KOs) was awarded the Nordoff Robbins Boxing Icon Award in London on Monday.
Frank Warren hosted an evening of Championship Boxing at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane to raise awareness of the music therapy charity.
Haye spoke to IFL TV after being recognised for his sporting achievements in a glittering career, and praised the event - “Everyone’s here to support a great charity. I was at the Royal Albert Hall last week to see a Nordoff Robbins session with an eight-year-old girl with severe learning difficulties. It was touching to see how music impacted her life and how it woke her up. They do it with young kids and elderly people with dementia too,” said the 36-year-old.
Recently the World Boxing Organization announced that Haye will face the winner of Joseph Parker and Andy Ruiz, who battle in December for the vacant WBO heavyweight title, and the Bermondsey fighter is confident he will lift the belt whenever the fight takes place.
“In 2017 I will be heavyweight champion again. I know it, I feel it in my waters. I’m cool when it happens, beginning or end I don’t care. When I get in the ring for that title all those 26 years of experience I’ve had - those training camps, those injuries, the experience as an amateur - will all come together,” added Haye.
The card saw wins for Raza Hamza and Lerrone Richards, who returned to the ring after a two-year layoff by stopping Gordan Glisic in the first round.
