Danny Garcia: record, next fight and profile →
The welterweight division is arguably the deepest in boxing today. CompuBox ranks the top dogs at 147 lbs in 10 categories. Errol Spence ranks #1 due to his offensive output and accuracy. Terence Crawford, who makes his welterweight debut at welterweight in April vs. Jeff Horn, is the best defender.
NEW YORK – Errol Spence Jr. would welcome a fight against Danny Garcia next. Whether Garcia would even consider it is another matter altogether. “I don’t know,” Spence told BoxingScene.com. “That’s something you’d have to ask him. I have no idea.”
NEW YORK – Errol Spence Jr. didn’t mean any disrespect to Lamont Peterson. They continued to demonstrate strong regard for one another at a press conference Thursday in Manhattan for their fight Saturday night. Despite the lopsided odds on their fight, Spence expects a real challenge from Peterson when they square off at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (Showtime; 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).
Former two division world champion Danny Garcia (31-1, 19 KOs) is ready to bounce back after suffering the first defeat of his pro career. Last March, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Garcia lost a twelve round split decision to Keith Thurman in their anticipated WBC, WBA welterweight unification bout.
Danny Garcia feels refreshed. The former welterweight and junior welterweight champion needed a mental and physical break from boxing following his split-decision defeat to Keith Thurman in their 147-pound title unification fight March 4. It wasn’t until about six months later that he started feeling the urge to fight again.

It was a fight that many expected Garcia to lose on a huge stage (Mayweather-Canelo). However, Garcia proved them all wrong by turning back Matthysse’s pressure with a measured attack and a solid jab. It was supposed to be Garcia’s bre...
Brandon Rios knows what’s being said and written about him. Skeptics consider him a shot fighter, entirely too tattered to legitimately compete with Danny Garcia when they square off February 17 in Las Vegas. Those critics have dismissed Rios as a glorified punching bag, a hopeless underdog in way over his head against a former WBC welterweight champion who remains in his physical prime.
Last year, the World Boxing Council was ready to order a fight for the WBC interim-welterweight title between two-division world champion Danny "Swift" Garcia and former champion "Showtime" Shawn Porter. The winner would have been the mandatory challenger to full WBC champion Keith Thurman, who holds decision wins over both fighters.
Danny Garcia hopes he gets another shot at Keith Thurman at some point. The former WBC welterweight champion just doesn’t sense the feeling is mutual. Garcia thinks Thurman will be content to have edged him by split decision in their 12-round, 147-pound championship unification fight and leave well enough alone.
