WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18KOs) would love to become a potential opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs).

Mayweather retired from boxing last September after dominating Andre Berto over twelve rounds. He recently confirmed that he's open to the possibility of a ring return, for the right opportunity and the right payday. In the past, Mayweather has mentioned Garcia as a potential opponent.

Garcia is scheduled to fight this coming Saturday night in a stay-busy fight against Samuel Vargas in Philadelphia. Their fight is a non-title ten rounder

If Garcia walks away without any damage on Saturday, he is scheduled to face WBA champion Keith Thurman in a very anticipated unification showdown on March 4th.

A fight with Mayweather could be easy to make, since both are promotional free agents and managed by Al Haymon. Mayweather is self-promoted, while Garcia fights under Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions banner.

Garcia captured the vacant WBC title in January with a twelve round decision over Robert Guerrero. The belt was vacated by Mayweather following his retirement.

The opponents for Garcia have been shaky over the years, but he steps up when it counts - in fights where the majority viewed him as the underdog.

"I would love to get into the ring with Floyd Mayweather; I think that would bring the best out of me. I’m a young, talented champion, and he’s the legend who has done a lot for the sport and made a lot of money. I’m a great fighter, and Floyd recognizes that I’m a great fighter and [I think he] would like to get into the ring with a great Philadelphia fighter," Garcia told Premier Boxing Champions.

"Remember, the first man to beat Muhammad Ali was a Philly fighter, Joe Frazier. That’s what we do. We’re known to step up in the biggest times of our career and get the victories."
