Junior welterweight prospect Danielito Zorrilla hopes to press the accelerator on his career in 2021 and is one of his aspirations is to aim for a world title in his hard-fought division.
Zorrilla, who snapped a year-long layoff, picked up the pace on Saturday where he left off in 2019 by scoring a resounding knockout victory over Colombian Rodolfo Puente in the first boxing event held on the island during the pandemic and that took place in closed doors environment in the Pedrín Zorrilla coliseito.
Zorrilla, who suffered a bad right shoulder injury in 2019, raised his undefeated record to 14-0 and 11KO's.
"I was out for a year, but it was good for us to recover from the injury," said Zorrilla to Carlos Narvaez. "We gave [the shoulder] rest and here we have the result. I graduated with honors," he said confidently after dispatching Puente.
"I hope now to have a high level opportunity at the end of 2021. I feel prepared for it. I am a fighter who comes from having great experience at the amateur level. There is no time to lose."
Bryan Pérez, vice president of Miguel Cotto Promotions (MCP), revealed that they will analyze Zorrilla's options for 2021.
He believes Zorrilla is no longer a unbeaten prospect - and now views him a hard-punching contender who deserves to work his way to a world title shot in the near future.
"Without a doubt Danielito showed that he is no longer a prospect but a contender for a world title. So we will work towards that for 2021. We know this has been a very difficult year, but we are optimistic for him to be a future world champion," Perez said.
Zorrilla is in the 15th position in the ranking of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), a division whose champion is José Ramírez.
