Daniel Jacobs: record, next fight and profile →
2016 was a rather frustrating one for IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs). While he scored wins over Dominic Wade and Kell Brook, they weren't nearly the caliber of fights he has been yearning for. Also for the first time in years he fought less than three times in a calendar year.
Daniel Jacobs is immersed in training camp for the biggest fight of his career. He’s not looking at social media or reading stories on the Internet with any regularity. Nevertheless, Jacobs has been made aware while training in Oakland, California, that negotiations between representatives for Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez have continued to take place.
In front of a packed house of media on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Unified Middleweight World Champion, GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN, (36-0, 33 KO’s) and former WBC Super Flyweight World Champion, CARLOS “PRINCIPE” CUADRAS, (36-1-1, 27 KO’s), both showed they are in excellent shape and rare form heading into battle on Saturday, Mar. 18.

Daniel Jacobs has more than taken notice of reports this week about continuing negotiations for a Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin fight in September. Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez have discussed trying to make a long-awaited Alvarez-Golovkin fight this week while touring to promote the Alvarez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight May 6 in Las Vegas. Alvarez is a heavy favorite to defeat his Mexican rival in their HBO Pay-Per-View main event and insists he wants to battle Golovkin in his next bout.
It's now less than a month before Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) defends his IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight belts against mandatory challenger Danny Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) from the Madison Square Garden in New York City.
