Daniel Jacobs: record, next fight and profile →
NEW YORK – Daniel Jacobs expects Gennady Golovkin to beat Canelo Alvarez in their rematch. Jacobs scored their first fight for Golovkin, too. And like many boxing fans, Jacobs walked away from the television that night disgusted by Adalaide Byrd’s scorecard. Jacobs just hopes the scoring of their middleweight championship rematch reflects what transpires in the ring at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (HBO Pay-Per-View).
By Keith Idec - NEW YORK – The legend of Daniel Jacobs skipping the IBF’s second-day weigh-in before his fight against Gennady Golovkin has grown to the degree Jacobs can’t help but laugh. It seems as if every time Jacobs hears or reads about that situation, he was heavier the night he walked into the ring and gave Gol...
NEW YORK – Daniel Jacobs is sure he would’ve knocked out Canelo Alvarez if he would’ve gotten the chance to fight Alvarez next. “I think I stop Canelo,” Jacobs said following a press conference Thursday for his October 27 fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. “I’ve always said that.” Oscar De La Hoya, Alvarez’s promoter, and Eddie Hearn, Jacobs’ promoter, engaged in negotiations for an Alvarez-Jacobs bout when it appeared early in June that Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin might not come to an agreement on a financial split for their middleweight championship rematch.
NEW YORK – Daniel Jacobs could’ve criticized Gennady Golovkin and commended himself all at the same time. Jacobs just doesn’t think Golovkin is afraid of fighting Sergiy Derevyanchenko. The former WBA world middleweight champion believes it simply made financial sense for Golovkin to put off making a mandatory defense of his IBF middleweight title against Derevyanchenko because he’ll make much more money for his rematch with Canelo Alvarez.
NEW YORK – Daniel Jacobs knows full well what he is getting into against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Jacobs estimated Thursday that he and his stablemate have sparred nearly 300 rounds against one another in recent years. Thus the former WBA world middleweight champion completely understands Derevyanchenko’s capabilities.

NEW YORK – Familiarity breeds complacency sometimes. Daniel Jacobs is certain that won’t at all be the case when he encounters frequent sparring partner Sergiy Derevyanchenko on October 27. Jacobs expects their 12-round fight for the vacant IBF middleweight title to unfold as “a war” that night in The Theater at Madison Square Garden (HBO).
Daniel Jacobs is convinced Billy Joe Saunders wants no part of him. Saunders insists that isn’t true. In fact, if Saunders defeats Demetrius Andrade in what figures to be a difficult fight October 20 and can’t land a shot at the winner of the Gennady Golovkin-Canelo Alvarez rematch, the unbeaten WBO middleweight champion says he would want to face Jacobs next.
The Sergiy Derevyanchenko-Daniel Jacobs fight appears headed to a different date and site. BoxingScene.com has learned negotiations are nearing completion for the Derevyanchenko-Jacobs bout to take place October 27 in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. October 27 was a potential date when promoters Eddie Hearn (Jacobs) and Lou DiBella (Derevyanchenko) reached an agreement moments before this IBF-mandated middleweight championship match went to purse bid July 10.
BoxingScene.com has learned that an 11th-hour deal has been made for Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Daniel Jacobs to fight for the vacant IBF middleweight title. Lou DiBella, Derevyanchenko’s promoter, and Eddie Hearn, Jacobs’ promoter, came to terms late Tuesday morning for an October bout that’ll take place either at Madison Square Garden or Barclays Center in New York.
