Dan Azeez arrived late to the British Boxing Board of Control’s scale Friday afternoon, but the unbeaten light heavyweight contender comfortably made weight on his first try for his domestic showdown with Joshua Buatsi.

Azeez, who blamed traffic for his tardiness, officially weighed in at a career-low 172.5 pounds for their 12-round fight Saturday night at OVO Arena Wembley in London. An annoyed Buatsi, who was at the venue on time Friday, came in at 174 pounds, despite that he had to wait some additional time to weigh in.

The London residents will square off for the BBBofC 175-pound championship in a main event Sky Sports will televise live in the United Kingdom.

Most sportsbooks list Buatsi (17-0, 13 KOs) as at least a 4-1 favorite to defeat Azeez (20-0, 13 KOs). Their intriguing bout between these longtime friends is risky because Buatsi and Azeez are both ranked within the top five by the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO.

Buatsi, 30, and Azeez, 34, were initially scheduled to square off October 21 at O2 Arena in London. Their fight was postponed October 18 due to Azeez’s back injury.

Sky Sports will televise their bout as the main event of a five-fight telecast in the UK. The show will be streamed by NBC’s Peacock in the United States.
