WBO welterweight champion Terence "Bud" Crawford is hoping to eventually get in the ring with WBC, IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence.
The two undefeated boxers are regarded as the best fighters of the welterweight division.
A unification between the two is nowhere near the possibility of taking place.
Crawford, who regards himself as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, has a lot of respect for Spence's ability as a boxer.
“There’s nothing really bad I can say about his talent or his skill set, it’s just business when it comes between me and him. He wants to be the best in the division and he feels he’s the best in the division, and I feel that I’m by far the best in the division. That’s when you have two alpha males bumping heads and got to see who’s #1,” Crawford told Brian Custer on The Last StandPodcast.
Neither champion has a fight scheduled, as of yet, in 2020.
The coronavirus pandemic has pushed back the entire sport. And until the restrictions are eased to the point where spectators are allowed to attend live sporting events - it's going to be very difficult for promoters to finalize high profile fights.
Crawford is looking to face the biggest name possible in the fall.
As far as 2021, he wants to capture more titles - specifically by fighting Spence.
He believes a showdown with Spence would result in a high level chess match.
“I don’t think he’ll fight me like just try and come straight to me. I think that would bad decision for him! Now he may, but I don’t think he’ll fight me like that. I think he’ll try to use his jab and oppose his will on me, but I think it’ll be more of a chess match than anything because I feel like I’m always changing things up," Crawford said.
"I think it will be more of a chess match than anything because I feel like I’m always changing things up and if he can’t keep up with me changing up the style and changing up the pace, and changing up the fight style he’s going to fall behind.”
