Craig Evans Beats Stalker in Trilogy, Kid Galahad Gets KO Win

By Elliot Foster

Craig Evans ended the rivalry with Thomas Stalker, beating him to take his belt.

The Welshman had seen his efforts come to nothing in two previous meetings with the Liverpudlian, with both contests being called a draw.

But their third tussle, as part of the undercard to Frank Warren’s big ‘A Little Less Conversation’ card at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, exclusively live on BoxNation, was handed a conclusive finish.

After 10 hard rounds of both men giving their all, with Evans –– who advances to 16-1-2 with three early with the win –– pulling ahead after the early stages against a lacklustre Stalker, who loses the WBO European lightweight title in defeat.

Stalker, 32, slipped to 11-2-3 (2 KOs) after the three ringside judges turned in scorecards of 95-95, 94-96 and 92-98.

Elsewhere, Kid Galahad got his second stoppage in three contests.

The former British, Commonwealth and European super-bantamweight titlist was a late addition to the card but wasn’t fazed.

Galahad, now 21-0 with 12 KOs, routinely got rid of well-travelled journeyman Reynaldo Mora in three of eight scheduled rounds after being dropped in the second.

Welshman Alex Hughes advanced to 9-0 with a comfortable win over Harry Matthews.

Gary Lockett-trained Hughes coasted to victory against the durable man from York, but his trainer was unhappy with the display, despite the fact the referee awarded him a decision by 80 points to 73.

Earlier in the card, Jay Harris scored his sixth consecutive stoppage as he looks towards a domestic title shot.

The 26-year-old super-flyweight, from Swansea, knocked down Liverpool’s Phil Smith –– who slips to 6-3 in defeat –– four times before the Scouser’s corner pulled him out at the end of the fourth round.

Harris advances to 9-0.

Ricky Hatton-promoted duo Reuben Arrowsmith and Nathan Gorman both got wins.

Gorman, the Central Area heavyweight champion, improved his ledger to seven undefeated after opponent Igor Mihaljevic retired at the end of the third round, while Arrowsmith went the distance with Ivica Gogosevic, earning a 40-36 points win to move to 8-0 with two early.

But there was disappointment for previously undefeated Jason Sillett as he lost his ‘0’ against Henry Janes. It was a four-round contest and the referee scored every round in favour of Janes, handing in a scorecard of 40-35.
